I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy that has run out of refrigerant. The clutch does not engage so I cannot add more refrigerant. I understand that the clutch can be jumped to run the compressor even when the refrigerant is low. How do I do this?
Thanks.

Actually I would suggest jumping the low pressure switch. You should see it sticking out of the accumulator line (the silver cylinder near the passenger’s side firewall). Pull the plug off of it and it should just have 2 terminals. Use a paper clip or make a jumper wire to short across it and the compressor should kick in.
You don’t need to jumper anything to add refrigerant to the system. Start by adding 1 can to the system through the low side fitting. You’ll probably have to warm up the can a bit with an incandescent shop light bulb. As the refrigerant is added to the system, the pressure will build and eventually close the contacts in the low pressure switch enabling the compressor to run. You will probably need about 3 12oz cans. And you will also need to start the engine and run it to get all of the refrigerant into the system
