Budget Auto GPS Review: Garmin i2

With so many full colour large screen GPS systems in the market, the Garmin i2 may certainly not grab your attention as such, but if you’re running on a tight budget, then the i2 will definitely turn out to be one of the best inexpensive auto GPS solutions.

At first, the i2 may surely look like a backwards step in comparison to the revised TomTom One, but when you compare the pricing, you’ll certainly admit that the cheapest TomTom GPS device fails to render better performance than the Garmin in all the aspects.

However, if you’re looking for extra goodies, then you’ll definitely be badly disasppointed as there’s simply nothing – no touch screen, photos, SiRF Star III chipset, Bluetooth data or phone connections, forget about Mp3 playback.

In fact the i2 also lacks add-on traffic modules as well. However, when you look at the real purpose of the Garmin i2, it is one of the best at doing whatever it has been primarily designed for – a budget navigator loaded with basic map replacement features, free from the excessive junk seen on majority of Nav systems these days.

In UK, it bears a price tag of £89 and definitely worth your money. This simple to use, accurate and highly reliable auto GPS navigator is indeed not one of those, which will look good on the luxurious vehicles like BMW, Audi and Ferrari, but it is surely not a bad option in the economy class cars.

Bottom-line

All those who aren’t really looking out to splash too much cash, and simply need a basic replacement for the older tatty atlas in your glove box the Garmin i2 is just what the doctor ordered for. After all, it is not fair enough to expect anything more than what the i2 has got to offer under the $250 mark!
